Description Toxic pollutants such as ammonia (NH4) are caused by various factors including the biological decomposition of organic matter, high fish density in the aquarium, the use of medications, and filter replacement. Ammonia, which appears in the water at the beginning of the nitrogen cycle, is converted into nitrites by Nitrosomonas bacteria. The NH4 level in the aquarium should not exceed 0.02 mg/L.
